Matthias Lingenfelder

Violin

Matthias Lingenfelder was born in 1959 and started violin instruction at the age of 7. After training with Max Rostal and Gerard Poulet, he founded the Auryn Quartet in 1981; further studies with the Guarneri and Amadeus Quartet followed. The Auryn Quartet was successful in 1982 in international competitions in Portsmouth and Munich. Since then, the Auryn Quartet has been one of the leading string quartets, with concerts all over the world, at all important festivals, and with many CD recordings that have received various awards (including the diapason d’or).

Along with his work as First Violin in the quartet, Matthias Lingenfelder has also given solo performances with various orchestras and piano partners. He was Concert Master of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and teaches Chamber Music at the University of Music in Detmold.
